The Hanfu Revival Movement
(Tumblr) (amazon)
The Hanfu revival movement started in the 2000s but has gradually gained popularity in China since the start of the 2020s. Many Chinese people have appreciated the return of traditional dress. It has also become one of China's many subculture fashions. It makes many people feel authentic. While some wear it daily as a lifestyle it is more common now to wear Hanfus to formal occasions. I have also observed the amazing photoshoots and photography done by influencers in these outfits which promotes the revival's popularity.
Characteristic of Hanfu
One of the most memorable parts of a hanfu is that it has a y-shaped neck. The left side of the collar goes over the right side It's the most defining feature of the hanfu robes and ensemble. There are also many color schemes too but the ¨Dark style¨ would have to take the medal for most known and worn. The patterns on Hanfu are also normally dragons or refer back to a dynastic time.
Types of Styles
Mianfu Robe
The Mianfu robe is usually associated with formal events. It was also used in ancient times for princes and nobles. It showed the status of the family in power. The Mianfu robe was used by every dynasty from the Zhou dynasty and beyond. The robe includes a crown called a minigun. It is shaped like a board and is decorated with beads.

Shenyi Hanfu
The Shenyi Hanfu is a one-piece that is stitched together. It covers the entire body promoting modesty, and it can be worn by both women and men. It is also used in casual settings. It doesn't have the extravagant features like the Mianfu.
(New Hanfu)
Ruqun Hanfu
The Ruqun hanfu has two separate pieces one being a short skirt and one being a short shirt jacket. Many patterns can be used. It was the most basic attire that Han Chinese women had worn but there are also Runquns for men.

I think Hanfu clothes are beautiful pieces of historical fashion and I hope this movement and revival is here to stay.
